The industrial truck manufacturer Hyster now equips almost all counterbalance and warehouse trucks with lithium-ion batteries ex works if required.

At LogiMAT, the company showcased the J1.6XN three-wheel electric counterbalance truck with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, which requires very little maintenance.

More and more often an option: lithium-ion battery
"Industrial trucks with lithium-ion batteries are increasingly being used as a drive option for demanding applications," says Timo Antony, Area Business Director Central Europe at Hyster. The technology is also advantageous in areas where contamination is to be avoided. The batteries contain no acid that could leak and produce vapors, making them particularly suitable for intensive indoor applications. Lead-acid batteries, on the other hand, can emit hydrogen and other gases that are undesirable in clean room areas for food production and storage. Another advantage is that they require less maintenance than lead-acid batteries. This reduces costs and also improves battery life.

Efficient intermediate charging
"A significant advantage of lithium-ion batteries is that they can be recharged during planned interruptions or breaks," says Antony. "This 'recharging' approach simplifies operations, as only one battery is needed instead of two." In addition, lithium-ion batteries are often more cost-effective when used correctly and reduce the overall cost of the batteries after just a few years.

Save space: No special loading area required
Particularly interesting for new locations: no special loading area is required. This saves a lot of space right from the start. At older locations with previous use of lead-acid batteries, on the other hand, the infrastructure must be adapted, which can be costly under certain circumstances.
