Case Study
Agile in narrow aisles
"Today's products and packaging for tomorrow's world" - this is one of the mottos of Etimex Primary Packaging, which creates sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions for food, pharmaceuticals and technical items. To ensure that its warehouse at the company headquarters in Dietenheim is also well equipped for future requirements, the company relies on a handling solution from Irish manufacturer Combilift in the form of an Aisle Master articulated stacker.
The desire for better space utilization in the 1,560 m² warehouse was the trigger for the search for an alternative to the electric front loader previously used. The truck, like all forklifts of this type, takes up a lot of space when maneuvering in the aisles and storing Euro pallets containing tools for packaging production. And as warehouse operators know, every meter of space is precious. The design of the Aisle Master allows maneuverable operation in confined spaces and narrow aisle widths. The cooperation between Schöler Fördertechnik, Frank Rösler from Combilift Germany and K-LOG Lagersysteme as well as a demonstration of the Aisle Master led to a new handling and storage concept for Etimex. The warehouse planning by K-LOG Lagersysteme, including the racking system layout, also illustrated the potential for a significant increase in the number of pallets.
Easy removal at height
Once the project had been approved by Manuela Hartmann, Head of Logistics at Etimex and her team, the redesign of the warehouse began. Two 2,100 mm wide aisles and one 2,250 mm aisle replaced the previous aisle widths of 3,100 mm that were required for the front loader. The AM 20 SE electric Aisle-Master model has a load capacity of two tons. The 5,800 mm Quadro mast makes it easy to remove and place pallets weighing one tonne in the uppermost shelving compartments of around 5.60 m and to use them for the various handling tasks that also occur in the production and dispatch areas. In the pushback racking systems of the K-LOG storage systems, this all-rounder also functions as a front stacker.
Features such as the hydraulic telescopic push forks, sideshift and tine adjustment, which can be operated from the cab, make the process easier and faster. The heated full cab also ensures driver comfort when working outside, for example when loading and unloading trucks. "The main aim of this project was to improve storage density and make handling more versatile," said Hartmann. "Thanks to the cooperation with our long-standing partners, we are delighted with the successful result."
