Watch out - forklifts on the move!
The British logistics company Great Bear secures its narrow aisles with the ELOprotect mobile personnel protection system and thus avoids collisions.
On behalf of Linde Material Handling (UK), Elokon has retrofitted 19 K-Man-Up high-rack stackers with ELOprotect, which are in operation at Great Bear, a subsidiary of the Culina Group, at its UK site in Skelmersdale. Culina is the market leader in the UK and Ireland for the storage, distribution and transportation of chilled and ambient food. For Martin Jones, Head of VNA Sales at Linde Material Handling (UK), the addition of the ELOprotect solution enables potential collisions with pedestrians, objects or another forklift truck to be detected. The system is already working at several sites in the UK. Culina is also planning to introduce it at other locations.
Robust security solution sought
Great Bear provides contract logistics and supply chain management services in the UK and Ireland and manages more than seven million square meters of warehouse space itself. "We were looking for a robust solution for improved security in our narrow aisles, independent of forklift providers," says Andy Miszkiel, MHE Manager of the Culina Group. It appears that Elokon has met the requirements.
Several forklifts possible in one aisle
The ELOprotect mobile personnel protection system is an automatic safety solution for protecting people when using industrial trucks in narrow aisles. The basic equipment consists of evaluation electronics, two laser scanners and a display and operating module. It is available with various extensions and options, some of which were selected for installation at Great Bear. One of these is the Antic anti-collision module, which makes it possible to operate several forklift trucks in one aisle at the same time: thanks to an extended protection area, several industrial trucks can be used without any serious loss of speed and with a consistently high goods turnover rate.
