TGW: Auto parts giant expands logistics center

The well-known Scandinavian automotive parts supplier Mekonomen commissioned the systems integrator TGW with the planning, installation, commissioning and maintenance of a new intralogistics solution as part of the expansion program at the central logistics center in Strängnäs, Sweden. The Mekonomen Group is the leading chain for automotive spare parts in the Nordic countries. The company itself stores over 67,000 spare parts and products for 9,000 car models. By expanding the logistics center in Strängnäs, Mekonomen can combine the activities of two distribution centers in one existing building. The TGW system for small parts in totes is based on the TGW FlashPick concept. Order cartons are created at the PickCenter workstations and then consolidated with the TGW Stingray Shuttle system. In this shuttle warehouse, 100 shuttles move on 53 levels in four aisles and serve 108,000 storage positions with an output of 4,500 totes per hour.
