Parallel kinematics instead of robots
Together with research institutes at RWTH Aachen University, Trapo has developed a flat high-performance parallel kinematic system. It can replace the articulated arm robot in packaging processes and is designed to take on tasks that require high precision and performance.
The high-performance parallel kinematics consist of a five-axis kinematic structure, a Z-axis and a rotary module for orientation. The modular system has three or four optional degrees of freedom and can be used as a high-speed pick-and-place system (HPPS) as a picker variant for products with up to 200 parts/minute and a payload of up to one kilogram, and as a high-speed kinematic system (HKS) with up to 60 parts/minute and a payload of up to five kilograms. For applications as a packing robot, the fourth Z-axis is required to grip fed products and pack them in a box, for example. The parallel kinematics use a camera to detect the position of the parts. These are then picked or, in the NIO case, ejected.
Modular system
"Our high-performance pick-and-place systems with Trapo parallel kinematics redefine efficiency and complete the overall line expertise of our company," explains Dr. Stefan Kurtenbach, Technical Director of Design / R&D at Trapo. "The modular system can be adapted to different framework conditions and thus covers almost every area of application."
The HPPS can be built in different variants: In the variant with a large operating radius, the picker can also reach behind itself. The parallel kinematic picker is also available with two strokes (200 mm and 400 mm). The individual grippers are also adapted to the object characteristics.
