Do-it-yourself market leader relies on TGW

The French do-it-yourself market leader Leroy Merlin has commissioned TGW with the construction of a highly automated logistics center southeast of Paris. At the heart of the solution is a FlashPick system.

Whether building materials, DIY, home or garden supplies: Leroy Merlin offers its customers a wide range of products and a high quality of service. To further accelerate its deliveries, the French DIY specialist relies on a new distribution center in Réau. Systems integrator TGW was selected as a partner for the project, which is scheduled to go live in summer 2021.

The new logistics hub will enable Leroy Merlin to further optimize its supply chain. In addition to reducing throughput times, the aim is to increase productivity and improve the availability of goods. At its heart is a highly automated FlashPick system that combines a shuttle warehouse with goods-to-person picking workstations. The scope of delivery also includes semi-automated stations for palletizing and depalletizing.

"This allows Leroy Merlin to benefit from maximum performance in order to optimally control the flow of goods from suppliers, the warehouse process itself and distribution to stores and online customers," say those responsible at Leroy Merlin. "In the interests of our employees, we have also placed great emphasis on ergonomic design for optimum working conditions, minimal risk of injury and maximum productivity."

Leroy Merlin relies on a highly flexible, sustainable and efficient intralogistics solution. "In addition to the initial implementation, the portfolio also includes a full service package in the area of Lifetime Services. Over a period of several years, 15 TGW specialists will be on site to ensure that the system runs smoothly around the clock," emphasize the Leroy Merlin managers. FlashPick comprises a nine-aisle shuttle warehouse with 171 Stingray shuttle vehicles, around 80,000 storage locations and an output of 70,000 order lines per day. The various functional areas are connected with each other using energy-efficient KingDrive conveyor technology. The shuttle warehouse is connected to six PickCenter One high-performance picking workstations, where the retail orders are put together. In addition, semi-automated stations are used for palletizing and depalletizing. The TGW Warehouse Software controls all processes in its function as WCS.
