Increased efficiency
New quality classification optimizes use of EPAL Euro pallets
The European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) has revised the quality classification and exchange conditions in cooperation with retailers, freight forwarders, pallet service providers and repair companies.
The new version of the EPAL quality classification still contains the distinction between new EPAL Euro pallets and used EPAL Euro pallets of classes A, B and C, which is familiar to the market. The group of unsorted pallets, which are mixed by the participants in the EPAL exchange pool and exchanged one by one without prior sorting, is now mentioned for the first time.
The quality classification offers users of EPAL Euro pallets the simple option of agreeing the delivery of a defined quality of used EPAL Euro pallets that meet the individual requirements of the individual user when purchasing or exchanging EPAL Euro pallets. This increases the efficiency of the use of used EPAL Euro pallets.
Jean-Philippe Gaussorgues, President of EPAL France and Vice-President of EPAL: "One of the great strengths of the EPAL Euro pallet pool is the flexible use of EPAL Euro pallets of all ages and quality classes according to the different requirements of different industries and companies. EPAL's new quality classification makes this even easier and more effective."
The EPAL quality classification has become increasingly important in recent years. After the original version was developed for the German market in 2011 by EPAL Germany together with GS1 Germany, numerous EPAL National Committees have adopted the quality classification. The growing popularity of the quality classification is also evident to EPAL from the increasing number of inquiries from users. EPAL has taken these requests from the market as an opportunity to formulate the criteria for differentiating the quality classes even more precisely and comprehensibly, taking even greater account of the practical requirements and international use of the quality classification. By the end of 2021, the new version of the quality classification and the exchange conditions will be available in more than twenty languages. At the beginning of 2022, the quality classification will also be published in the new EPAL app to make it even easier to use in practice.
Roman Malicki, President of EPAL Polska and member of the EPAL Board: "Cross-border supply chains and increasingly digital pallet management require internationally standardized regulations for the use and exchange of EPAL Euro pallets that are understandable for users. The new version of the quality classification and exchange conditions now adopted by all EPAL National Committees improves pallet exchange throughout Europe."
Together with the quality classification, EPAL's exchange conditions are also published in a new and modern layout. The smooth exchange of EPAL Euro pallets and the certified repair of damaged EPAL Euro pallets require clear rules. The new version of EPAL's exchange conditions meets these requirements even better.
Pierre Clénin, Managing Director of EPAL Suisse and member of the EPAL Board: "EPAL's exchange conditions are the foundation of the EPAL Euro pallet exchange pool. This will not change with the new version of the quality classification and exchange conditions. Without an agreement to supply a specific quality class in accordance with EPAL's quality classification, only EPAL's exchange conditions will apply in the future."
The EPAL quality classification and exchange conditions are now available for download in numerous languages on the EPAL website (www.epal.eu).
