Air freight
Freight hub opened in Budapest
Just one year after the ground-breaking ceremony, the new BUD Cargo City at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport was handed over yesterday. The EUR 50 million project is intended to make Hungary and Budapest Airport a central hub for air freight in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
The new handling center, which was opened on November 22, offers the air cargo industry a modern working environment and strengthens the position of Budapest Airport and the Hungarian economy.
From January 2020, the complex will offer users 21,200 square meters of warehouse and office space and 11,650 square meters of freight forwarding space. Connected to the logistics center is an apron with a floor area of 32,000 square meters, which offers space for up to two Boeing 747-8F aircraft.
Stable cargo volume
Budapest Airport handled 146,113 tons of air freight last year. This year, the cargo volume has remained stable despite international trade conflicts and a decline in foreign markets. When completed, it will increase the airport's total capacity to 250,000 tons per year, creating room for further growth.
10,000 jobs
BUD Cargo City gives foreign companies better access to the Hungarian market. At the same time, Hungarian companies will have more opportunities to develop internationally. A total of 35 tenants, including freight forwarders, cargo airlines, security service providers and customs, have already settled here, indirectly creating 10,000 jobs in the Hungarian economy.
