Powerful and networked: MiR presents innovations at Automate

Robotics specialist Mobile Industrial Robots had two innovations in store for visitors to Automate, America's largest trade fair for robotics and automation. With the MiR1000, the company is launching its most powerful collaborative transport robot to date. The AI-supported image processing "MiR AI Camera" improves the navigation of all MiR robots and makes their use more efficient.

Powerhouse: Up to one tonne load
According to the manufacturer, the MiR 1000 can carry loads of up to one tonne, adding a collaborative transport solution for particularly heavy loads to the MiR product portfolio. The MiR1000 can automatically pick up, transport and unload pallets and other heavy goods. "With the MiR1000, we are responding to the strong demand from our customers who are already using smaller MiR robots but also want to transport heavier loads automatically," explains Thomas Visti. "We often see this in the aviation and automotive industries in particular. The MiR1000 now also enables companies to automate their processes for which there were previously no suitable solutions." Sensors and cameras enable the MiR1000 to navigate safely alongside humans and find its way around even in dynamic environments.

AI improves robot navigation
Another new addition to the Danish company's product portfolio: the new AI-supported image processing system "MiR AI Camera" enables MiR robots to plan optimized routes. Cameras strategically placed in the factory hall and intelligent software will ensure that MiR's transport robots are able to distinguish between different obstacles and react specifically to them. If a robot encounters a human, for example, it will continue its journey and drive around them at a safe distance. If it encounters a forklift truck, on the other hand, the robot parks so that it can drive past. "The advanced intelligent navigation via MiR AI Camera makes the use of our mobile robots even more efficient for companies," summarizes Thomas Visti.
