Dematic: Bin-to-Picker AMR solution for 3PL fashion providers
Nominated for the category 5 Project of the Year: 299 AMRs and new goods-to-person stations allow 3PL fashion provider Radial to increase picking performance while maintaining flexible processes despite high article volumes.
The fashion customer for whom Radial operates e-commerce fulfillment in Groningen has a high product turnover with a customer assortment of around 20,000 changing items. The 3PL provider was faced with challenges resulting from the high volatility and the range of items to be coordinated. The rack storage system comprises 40,000 storage locations, which meant that the storage area quickly became overgrown with picking paths and the pickers needed almost two hours for their tours. Dematic's solution: 299 AMRs and new goods-to-person stations allow Radial to increase picking performance while maintaining flexible processes. Of particular note is the development of a goods-to-person process that is handled entirely by 299 AMRs instead of static conveyor technology.
Compared to the previous manual person-to-goods process, the new warehouse consists of a flexible bin-to-picker solution that can grow with the processes and requirements. The automation solution is scalable and also enables 4 times higher picking performance and 1.5 times higher packing performance.
