dm-drogerie markt designs logistics with Körber
Körber, a provider of supply chain software and automation technologies, has contributed to the expansion of the logistics network and modernized processes for Germany's leading drugstore retailer dm-drogerie markt.
As Anja Kircher, project manager at the IT subsidiary dmTECH, explains: "At the Wustermark site, the WMS, which is already in use at several other dm logistics centers, could be flexibly adapted to the new requirements within a manageable implementation period. Intelligent emulation tools made it possible to test the complex software processes intensively in advance and ensure smooth commissioning. An outstanding achievement by everyone involved."
The Wustermark site, west of Berlin, represents one of the most modern distribution centers in Europe. Around 200 jobs were created with the opening in April 2020. On an area of 30,000 square meters, dm also relies on logistics IT in the form of Körber's Warehouse Management System (WMS), which the company has relied on at other locations for years.
The WMS enables dm-drogerie markt to configure and optimize storage and retrieval itself. "One highlight is the store-specific distribution of orders on pallets based on a 'digital twin' as preparation for the robot - this saves distances in the store," explains Wilfried Pfuhl, Chief Operating Officer at Körber Supply Chain - Software. "However, this location is particularly exemplary due to its digital and highly automated logistics processes, which create significant advantages for dm logistics employees in areas such as order picking and outgoing goods."
The collaboration is also currently being continued in the form of a pilot project at the Karlsruhe site. There, Körber and Fetch Robotics have enabled the use of autonomous mobile robots (AMR) for internal goods transportation in the order picking area.
