Jungheinrich builds automated logistics center for Ferrero

The confectionery manufacturer Ferrero is building a new automated logistics center at its Villers-Ecalles site near the northern French city of Rouen. The Ferrero Group has commissioned Hamburg-based logistics expert Jungheinrich with the implementation of the project. As general contractor, Jungheinrich is supplying the entire intralogistics solution from a single source.

The 59-metre-long high-bay warehouse, which has a silo design, has eight aisles and a total capacity of 18,630 pallet spaces. The eight aisle-bound Jungheinrich storage and retrieval machines used here are equipped with telescopic forks and are therefore able to store and retrieve double-deep on 13 levels.

Jungheinrich's scope of supply also includes a logistics solution for the automatic loading and unloading of trucks. Conveyor technology connects the various functional areas. The automated components are connected directly to Ferrero's Warehouse Management System via Jungheinrich control technology. Franck Verween, Head of Logistics Systems at Jungheinrich France, explains: "This system was designed for particularly high throughputs. A really special feature is the fact that the warehouse consists of a total of three different temperature zones." Commissioning of the system is planned for the beginning of 2019.
