Successor to the Trakker
Iveco presents new off-road model T-Way
Iveco presented the new Iveco T-WAY, a heavy-duty off-road vehicle, to its dealer network and representatives of the international press in a digital event on April 28.
The Iveco T-WAY continues the legacy of a long line of off-road vehicles from the brand. Luca Sra, Chief Operating Officer Iveco Truck Business Unit, says: "Today we open a new chapter in Iveco's exceptional off-road history with the launch of the Iveco T-WAY, the heir to the Trakker's throne as the 'strongest of the heaviest'. This extra-strong vehicle, a true champion in terms of performance, stability and durability, will further consolidate Iveco's presence in the heavy-duty off-road sector. The Iveco T-WAY completes the renewal of the Iveco WAY heavy-duty range, which is now the most up-to-date, comprehensive and innovative on the market."
Thomas Hilse, Iveco Brand President, explains: "We shook up the industry with the Iveco S-WAY for on-road applications. Today we are doing it again in the off-road sector. With the Iveco T-WAY, we are about to lead trucking into the future in this segment as well. And the future begins now, with the Iveco T-WAY. We have developed the Iveco T-WAY with the aim of setting new standards in terms of robustness, reliability, efficiency, handling, body flexibility and networked services - and of course also in terms of comfort and design, a 'must' for an Italian brand. Its name says it all: T stands for tough!"
"T" stands for "tough"
The Iveco T-WAY was developed to offer the best performance in its class in every off-road application. It inherits from its predecessors the robustness of the high-strength, 10 millimeter thick ladder frame, which sets standards with a torsional rigidity of 177 kNm. The front axle has a maximum axle load of up to 9 tons for high load capacity and performance. The external wheel drive in the form of a planetary gearbox on the rear axle is standard. The new heavy-duty rear suspension system for tandem axles optimizes vehicle weight and improves off-road capability thanks to greater ground clearance and a better angle of slope.
The Iveco T-WAY delivers the power required for traction and power take-off (PTO) with the Iveco Cursor 13 engine (13 liter displacement), which develops up to 510 hp - exceeding the power of the TRAKKER by 10 hp. For lighter configurations, it is also available with the Cursor 9 engine.
The engines are available with the automated 12- and 16-speed HI-TRONIX transmission, which now also has new functions specifically for off-road mobility. These include a Hill Holder function that makes it easier to start off on inclines, a Rocking Mode to restore traction in slippery conditions and a Creep Mode for extremely low speeds at idle. For on-road sections, the Iveco HI-Cruise system further increases the efficiency of the transmission. It includes predictive shifting, cruise control and an eco-roll function that utilizes the vehicle's inertia when driving downhill.
The Iveco T-WAY is designed for efficiency and performance with a wide range of features, a lower unladen weight, new telematics functions and digital services. It offers a new fuel-saving solution for applications requiring occasional all-wheel drive (AWD): the HI-TRACTION hydrostatic drive for 6x4 chassis and semitrailer tractors. It operates at speeds of up to 25 km/h and is automatically activated to provide additional hydraulic front-wheel traction when required. The drive offers advantages in terms of fuel consumption and payload compared to a permanent AWD solution. The 325 kilogram lower tare weight of the T-WAY provides a payload gain compared to the TRAKKER. This is made possible by the new design of the tandem carrier on the rear axles, which is now a one-piece cast part.
Iveco's complete off-road range: the new Iveco T-WAY together with the Iveco X-WAY
The Iveco T-WAY and the Iveco X-WAY form Iveco's complete off-road product range, which is the most complete and up-to-date off-road range on the market.
The heavy-duty Iveco X-WAY series is designed for applications where the truck is on the road 90 percent of the time. However, it is capable of covering the last few kilometers off-road to reach the construction site. Built for a wide range of applications and designed for maximum flexibility, the X-WAY guarantees the necessary level of safety, comfort and efficiency required for an on-road vehicle with numerous chassis, cab and axle variants in addition to its robustness and reliability.
