Combined transport
80 Kögel trailers for Gruber Logistics
Gruber Logistics is taking delivery of 60 new trailers from Kögel's Cargo Coil Rail series, which will be used in combined transport. A further 20 Kögel Mega trailers of the Novum generation will support the fleet in transport tasks with high loading volumes.
Vehicles that can be used intermodally make it possible to utilize the respective strengths of each mode of transport. With the Kögel Cargo Coil Rail, the logistics service provider Gruber Logistics uses this advantage to implement its ambitious sustainability strategy in combined transport. Gruber Logistics also relies on the volume specialist Kögel Mega of the Novum generation.
The logistics and transport service provider Gruber Logistics takes social and environmental responsibility seriously. According to its own understanding, this includes taking care of people and the environment in equal measure. A fundamental component of the sustainability strategy of the company, which is headquartered in Ora near Bolzano (South Tyrol), is an innovative and environmentally friendly vehicle fleet. In addition to 500 Euro 6 tractor units, around 100 of which run on climate-neutral bio-LNG, there are more than 1,000 towed units in use. Many of these are equipped for use in combined transport, which according to Gruber Logistics is the basis for environmentally friendly goods distribution. Gruber Logistics already organizes 20 percent of all loads intermodally. The aim is to achieve a share of 40 percent within two years. "We can only achieve this with the right transport equipment," says Stefan Knapp, Head of International Fleet.
Gruber Logistics has now procured these from Kögel. The transport service provider has purchased 60 units of the Cargo Coil Rail series of the NOVUM generation from the traditional manufacturer from Burtenbach. The trailers, which are equipped for combined transport, combine economy and ecology entirely in the interests of the customer and in line with Kögel's company motto 'Economy meets Ecology - Because we care'. They will play their part in helping Gruber Logistics to achieve its sustainability goals. Kögel Cargo Coil Rail Trailers are true all-rounders in intermodal freight transport. They have all the advantages of the NOVUM vehicle generation. These include a high degree of customization, extensive standard equipment and a low tare weight. In addition, the vehicle is also suitable for transports with high point loads thanks to its equipment for coil transports. Load weights of up to 30 tons can be applied to 1.5 meters. Gruber uses a coil trough with a length of 7,200 millimetres for coils with a diameter of 900 to 2,100 millimetres. A version with a length of 9,000 millimetres is also available as an option.
The logistics service provider has also received 20 Kögel Mega of the NOVUM generation. The Mega - perfect height complies with the permissible overall height of four meters with a fifth wheel height of 910 millimeters despite an internal height of three meters, making it the volume specialist from Kögel. To optimize the height, the Kögel designers have opted for a combination of tire selection and a reduction of the fifth wheel neck from 90 to 55 millimetres. High payloads are guaranteed with a tare weight from 6.4 tons and thus stand for optimized economic efficiency. Loading and unloading three stacked lattice boxes is easy thanks to the standard mechanical-hydraulic lifting roof.
"As a fleet manager, it is our job to offer our clients the most advanced transport solutions. Trailers such as those manufactured by Kögel meet this requirement," explains Stefan Knapp. "Alongside the use of alternative fuels, intermodality is part of our green strategy. The combination of both achieves outstanding results!" explains Advisory Board member Martin Neese.
Gruber Logistics is one of the first transport companies in Europe to organize completely CO2-neutral multimodal transport. In addition, the company recently launched climate-neutral freight transportation for its customers via the Brenner Pass using bio-LNG trucks, making it a leader in sustainable goods transport. In the course of these new service offers, the innovative trailers from Kögel perfectly support the growth ambitions of Gruber Logistics. Further new acquisitions for the forwarding fleet are already being planned.
