How e-commerce and the evolution of sales channels through to omni-channel are shaping intralogistics and what impact new trends are having were the topics at the Material Flow Round Table on the subject of e-commerce. Two logistics experts from SSI Schaefer and a university expert ventured an outlook on future developments.

"But here, as everywhere else, things turn out differently than you think" wrote Wilhelm Busch in 1882 in the third chapter of the poem "Plisch und Plum". The sentence should not be missing from any article about Logistics 4.0 and certainly not from any article about e-commerce.

The countdown to the last space shuttle launch was almost five years ago. In warehouse technology, however, the trend towards shuttle systems continues unabated. A new distribution center from SSI Schaefer forms the logistical basis for the omni-channeling of the Finnish Stockmann Group, one of the leading retail companies in Scandinavia and the Baltic States. A combination of hanging garments and flat-packed goods as well as a system concept based on the patented 3D Matrix Solution enable order processing for stationary and online retail from just one logistics system.

The necessary high efficiency of process sequences in manual to fully automated storage systems requires their measurability and visualization. This requires comprehensive information on the current status of the system in real time from the various system components. The new Wamas Lighthouse information platform from SSI Schaefer fulfills precisely this task.
