Cost-effective and compact: Cuby-Shuttle

The countdown to the last space shuttle launch was almost five years ago. In warehouse technology, however, the trend towards shuttle systems continues unabated. "In most tenders today, single-level shuttle systems are requested in addition to automated small parts warehouses," reports Robert Fankhauser, Product Manager at SSI Schaefer. With the Cuby, SSI Schaefer is expanding its range of shuttle systems, which already includes the Navette (multi-level shuttle for small load carriers), the Schaefer Tray System (multi-level shuttle for pallet layers) and the Schaefer Lift&Run (multi-level shuttle for pallets).

The Cuby is an integrated system and consists of optimally coordinated components - shelving, lifter, one shuttle per storage level, shuttle crane at the rear, maintenance platforms and control system. The processes in the Cuby are controlled by the Cuby driver. It is part of the Wamas logistics software from SSI Schaefer.

A unique feature is the patent-pending use of the shelf depth support to guide the load handling device. "When it comes to the technical performance of the overall system, the performance of the lift is the most important factor. That's why we use a double-deck load handling device on the lifter to be able to pick up and drop off a container or carton at the same time. This enables us to achieve a throughput of approx. 400 double cycles per lifter per hour. A special feature is that the basic principle of double cycles is also used on the maintenance lift. This greatly increases availability. Depending on the customer's requirements, the Cuby can also be realized with two lifters per aisle, which doubles the output to up to 800 double cycles per hour.

These are figures that can be achieved in the long term and not just reflect peak performance," explains the responsible product developer Dr. Max Winkler, VP Solutions & Technology at SSI Schaefer. The Cuby can be used in a wide range of industries. Another advantage: customers receive the entire Cuby package from a single source.
