Vanderlande opens manufacturing and distribution center in the USA

Marietta, 07.08.2017 - Vanderlande is pleased to announce the opening of its new Manufacturing and Distribution Center in Georgia (GA), USA. The grand opening took place on Wednesday, June 28. The facility has been fully operational since Monday, June 19.
As a prime contractor for warehouse process automation solutions and value-optimized automation of logistics processes at airports and for the parcel market, Vanderlande has invested in this center to reduce lead times and costs for Vanderlande's North American customer base.
Vanderland's new facility in Acworth, GA is a merger of the company's manufacturing facility previously located in Calhoun, GA and the existing North American Distribution Center (adjacent to the Acworth location). These two locations each employ around 25 people. This number will more than triple at the Manufacturing and Distribution Center with between 80 and 100 employees when it is operating at full capacity.
Acworth benefits from the modern metal production and painting facility. Vanderlande will manufacture baggage handling and sorting systems, carousels and automated passenger screening systems for the airport market. In addition, the company will manufacture solutions for line sorter technology as well as bulk conveyors and chutes for the warehouse and parcel market.
Vanderland's COO, Gert Bossink, explains: "We have adopted a strategy of aligning global sourcing and local manufacturing to achieve the best solution for our customers. The opening of the new center in the USA fits perfectly with this approach." Nick Porter, Vanderlande's president for airports in North America, adds: "The investment in this facility demonstrates Vanderlande's commitment to the North American market. It will reduce the total cost of investment for our customers through reduced lead times, increased flexibility and the agility made possible by manufacturing high quality products here in Georgia."
The most important North American customers are UPS, FedEx, Amazon and some North American airports. These include Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare, Vancouver and Atlanta. The Acworth location will also house the company's North American parts business and act as a distribution hub for the continent and other global deliveries.
