Smart commands for high-speed doors
The AGVs at SIG Combibloc and the high-speed industrial doors from Efaflex communicate with each other. Smartly networked, the doors automatically receive their opening impulses from the vehicles: in the new door interlock between 250 and 300 times a day, without disruption.
SIG Combibloc in Linnich, a leading system and solution provider for aseptic packaging, has installed the floor-tight high-speed doors for hall closures and multi airlocks. Because not even the smallest insect is allowed into the warehouse and production areas. The company is subject to strict food law requirements in production and packaging. Like all SIG plants, the production facilities in Linnich are certified in accordance with certified quality, environmental and hygiene management systems. The aim of hygiene management, for example, is to ensure that packaging materials and packaging systems comply with food safety regulations and to guarantee a high level of hygiene within the production and storage areas.
"We have around 113 doors at our plant, 80 percent of which are already Efaflex doors," reports Dieter Spelz, Infrastructure Manager at SIG Combibloc in Linnich. He is responsible for everything to do with the buildings on the factory premises, for new buildings and repairs. "We used to have frequent collision damage. Since we've had the Efaflex doors, there have been virtually no more collisions. We intend to gradually equip the entire company with doors from Efaflex." Dieter Spelz explains why he appreciates working with the specialist for high-speed industrial doors so much: "Efaflex's customer service and field service are very flexible. We had little space for one of the doors. That's why we got narrower door slats for it. This also made the curtain box smaller. We liked this solution so much that we are now keeping it."
Dieter Spelz emphasizes the urgent need for the reliability of the fast Efaflex products: "We need these doors for a smooth production process. In the coating area, we process PE films with a thickness in the micro range. If we were to get a draught here, the films would turn over immediately. That would mean a loss of production. If a fault does occur, the customer service team at the Hilden branch responds immediately and is on site the next day at the latest.
Technical information on the EFA-SST
The engineers at Efaflex have redesigned high-speed spiral doors for hall closures. This includes an improvement of the physical properties as well as an optimization of the functionality. The new door leaf for Efaflex industrial doors is exceptionally robust, durable and thermally and acoustically insulating. The manufacturer offers thermally separated EFA-Therm insulating slats as standard for the EFA-SST. Depending on the door size and number of ISO vision panels, the doors achieve excellent U-values. This property ensures a pleasant working temperature. Depending on the desired incidence of light and the location of the door, customers can determine the number of EFA-Clear transparent slats they require for their EFA-SST. The doors are supplied in standard sizes up to 10,000 mm wide and 12,000 mm high. The scope of delivery includes a TÜV-certified door line light grid (EFA-TLG), which operates exactly at the door closing level. The safety system is fully protected and integrated into the side frames and generates a dense light grid of infrared beams up to a height of 2.5 m. Obstacles are detected without contact. Obstacles are detected without contact and the automatic closing movement is stopped immediately. Some of the EFA-SSTs in the factory are suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres. The EFA-SST ATEX are specially developed for use in EX areas for Zone 1 (II 2G IIB T4 Gb), Zone 2 (II 3G IIB T4 Gc), Zone 21 (II 2D IIIB 135°C Db) and Zone 22 (II 3D IIIB 135°C Dc) in accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.
