Clear view for forklift drivers thanks to AR
There are more than 10,000 accidents involving conventional forklift trucks every year in Germany alone. This is mainly due to limited visibility: the load, the lift mast and the columns of the forklift block the view. In future, augmented reality (AR) will provide a clear view at the wheel. Camera images of the surroundings will be shown on the display of the AR glasses worn by the forklift driver. This makes obstacles appear transparent. The improved visibility is the result of the "ViSIER" research project of the Hanover Institute for Integrated Production. Although the system is not yet ready for the market, it shows the great potential of AR. materialfluss says: "A real innovation, and not just for newcomers to forklift trucks!
