100% recyclable bag with removable sleeve
The major challenges of our time are packaging developments that are perfectly tailored to the circular economy. The aim must be to ensure that the materials of the used packaging become a raw material of almost the same quality as the original material after recycling. By strictly implementing "reverse engineering", i.e. designing from the end of the product cycle, this award-winning packaging has succeeded in meeting this challenge in an outstanding way.
The new packaging for liquid detergents replaces a conventional, non-recyclable stand-up pouch with a development made of 100% recyclable mono-material and at the same time solves the problem of recycling printed plastics. The printing on this packaging is not on the main material, but on a thin, detachable band of the same material, which can be sorted into separate quality fractions after shredding. This means that around 85% of the entire LD-PE material, including the pouring opening and lid, remains unprinted and can be recycled in high quality without any ink being added. However, the remainder is not lost and is fully retained as a raw material.
The bag impressively demonstrates what can already be achieved today with a consistent design for recycling.
