Expert opinions on the topic of green logistics
"All BITO products are designed for a long service life"
Uwe Sponheimer, Managing Director Sales (CSO) BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH, on the importance of green logistics for logistics and intralogistics. Exclusively for the materialfluss editorial team, industry experts explain how they pursue this goal with their customers in practice.
materialfluss: Does the topic of green logistics still"pull" in discussions with customers? What should logistics managers and those responsible for logistics pay particular attention to in this area?
Uwe Sponheimer: We have been observing for several years now that users are becoming increasingly aware of the issue of sustainability. For example, our container systems have long been in demand in storage, order picking and transportation, but also in production, as a reusable container solution that avoids packaging waste and is a stable, resilient and robust alternative to disposable cardboard boxes. Many customers attach great importance to the fact that the containers are also made from recycled material. As demand for this is constantly increasing, we have been producing the most popular container sizes in the MB reusable container series from recycled material or certified post-consumer plastic as standard since the end of 2019. As a special alternative, we also have small parts containers in our portfolio that are made from Sunflower Compound, a filler based on the fibers of sunflower seed husks. Anyone in the storage and logistics sector who pays attention to high quality and therefore durability when selecting container and shelving systems has already taken a big step towards sustainability.
mfl: Which of your company's products or services is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of green logistics?
Sponheimer: All BITO products are designed for a long service life and that in itself includes sustainability. BITO is also a company that has always kept the environment in mind. In recent years in particular, we have increasingly focused on the issue of climate neutrality. Last fall, we were certified as a climate-neutral company. But our solutions also contribute to sustainability in that our reusable container systems, which we have been producing for decades, save a lot of packaging waste. We have also been carrying out well-organized container recycling in our own facility for many years.
