New organizer, old qualities
Material Flow Congress: purely digital in 2021, then back to normal in 2022
The coronavirus pandemic has not only challenged many event planners. Against this backdrop, those responsible for the Material Flow Congress are taking a very smart approach: the traditional event will be held digitally for one day on March 18, 2021, with a "real" congress taking place again in 2022.
The announcement is also accompanied by a change in the organizer group. Following the departure of the VDI Wissensforum as the previous organizer in summer 2020, the Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics at the Technical University of Munich and the Munich, Upper Bavaria and Lower Bavaria District Association of the VDI are now jointly organizing the Material Flow Congress. The VDI Society for Production and Logistics will also remain on board as the conceptual sponsor of the Material Flow Congress. On March 18, participants can look forward to several sequences - the program will be published shortly - including the panel "Automation - where are the people?" planned for 2020. Some of the panel participants will be connected digitally, but some will also be discussing on site at the chair - we can look forward to the streams.
materialfluss says: The decision to suspend an in-person event in 2021 is both sensible and far-sighted: the online version on March 18 will keep the flag flying in the traditional month of the Material Flow Congress and signal that the industry's popular meeting is far from over. Instead, the early focus on 2022 provides planning security for all exhibitors and participants. Embarrassing and unprofessional wrangling, such as in the run-up to the 2020 LogiMAT and German Logistics Congress, is avoided. The same applies to postponing, putting off and late cancellations when travel and hotels have already been booked and the stand constructor is already in front of the hall. And even if the authorities would allow it: Who could network on site with a clear conscience? All trade fairs and congresses will have to ask themselves these questions this year and answer them in good time. The path taken by the Material Flow Congress deserves respect and praise.
