New research building
Foundation stone laid for Fraunhofer CML
The foundation stone for the new research building of the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services (CML) on the Lotsekanal in Harburg's Binnnenhafen was laid in a festive ceremony on June 26. The Fraunhofer develops and optimizes processes and systems along the maritime supply chain.
With increasing project and development tasks and correspondingly growing staff numbers, the decision was made in 2016 to build a new building to create more space for researchers. Andreas Meuer, Member of the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, explained: "The mission of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is to use applied research to build a bridge to the world of science for industry and especially for SMEs, which are at the heart of the German economy, and to keep them competitive with new technological impetus, but also to become more sustainable. In the maritime sector, the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services (CML) here in Hamburg is our most prominent example of these efforts."
On the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone, guests from politics, business, science and the neighborhood were able to get an idea of the project. Speeches by the First Mayor of the Hanseatic city, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Fraunhofer board member Andreas Meuer, the President of the TUHH Prof. Dr. Hendrik Brinksma, the architect Stefan Tebroke from BHBVT and the head of the CML, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carlos Jahn, informed the guests.
