Mercedes-Benz hands over eSprinter to DPD
Mercedes-Benz Vans has handed over seven battery-electric eSprinters to the logistics service provider DPD for locally emission-free delivery in urban traffic at its Berlin and Nuremberg sites. These are to be used for parcel delivery.
The eSprinter panel vans with a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kilograms in a high-roof design have a range of 168 km and a maximum payload of 891 kilograms. The integrated quick-charging function, which allows the battery to be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 25 minutes, ensures flexibility.
With the acquisition of the eSprinter, DPD is driving forward the expansion of its own e-vehicle fleet. Thanks to their electric drive and range, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinters at DPD are particularly suitable for use in city centers. As a rule, short delivery tours with many stops predominate there. The eSprinter can therefore demonstrate its strengths on routes where the proportion of parcels for private consignees is particularly high. In future, three of the seven eSprinters will be used in Berlin city center, while DPD will deploy the other four vehicles in Nuremberg. The batteries of the eSprinters will be charged directly at the depots. The routes are planned in such a way that additional charging is not necessary during the course of the delivery. "Green electricity" further improves the eco-balance of the e-transporters: since the beginning of the year DPD has only been using green electricity from renewable sources throughout Germany.
