Loxxess and Philip Morris extend cooperation

Logistics and fulfillment specialist Loxxess and tobacco manufacturer Philip Morris have expanded and extended their cooperation. As part of a tender, Philip Morris Manufacturing GmbH (PMMG) has entrusted the takeover of further areas to Loxxess.

The approximately 30-year collaboration will therefore be extended by a further three years and will include services in the area of interim storage and production-supplying logistics with raw tobacco for the Philip Morris plant in Berlin.
Since its foundation in 1970, Philip Morris GmbH has grown over many years and has established itself as a leading supplier of tobacco products in Germany with the Marlboro and L&M brands, among others. The company belongs to Philip Morris International Inc., whose headquarters are in Lausanne.

Extensive outsourcing of processes
The long-standing collaboration with Loxxess began back in the 1980s. Loxxess initially took over the production-supplying logistics of the Philip Morris plant in Berlin. In 1999, the fulfillment specialist also took over the warehouse logistics at the Berlin site. In the course of the collaboration, production supply and disposal with filters and the handling of a finished goods warehouse were added. Since 2016, Loxxess has also been responsible for the storage of slow-moving items and spare parts at the PMMG plant. These include machine parts for the production facilities. Import and export processing, including shipping documentation and customs clearance, are also among the tasks assigned to Loxxess. There are 80 Loxxess employees working for Philip Morris at the Berlin site. Michael Claus, Supervisor LSP Management at Philip Morris Manufacturing GmbH, explained the award of the contract: "As a fulfillment service provider, Loxxess has been a competent and reliable partner of Philip Morris for a long time.
Morris. Now that Loxxess has once again impressed us in the tendering phase, we will also be relying on the services, flexibility and expertise of Loxxess in the new areas in the future."

As part of the contract extension, Loxxess is creating eleven additional jobs at the Berlin site. Dr. Claus-Peter Amberger, CEO of Loxxess AG, commented on the continuation of the cooperation as follows: "Over the course of decades of cooperation, Loxxess has increasingly taken over areas of responsibility at the Berlin site. By extending the contract, we are broadening this cooperation and can provide Philip Morris with comprehensive support."
