Second logistics center in Falkensee

In Falkensee, BLG Logistics has been operating a state-of-the-art logistics center for its customer Siemens Power & Gas on an area of over 45,000 square meters since May. From there, BLG supplies the production of the Siemens gas turbine plant in Berlin-Moabit and its external site in Berlin-Siemensstadt. All materials and preliminary products from various suppliers come together in the newly built logistics center. The BLG team's tasks include picking the delivered parts, transporting them to the plant using its own trucks and distributing the materials to the installation site at the Siemens plant. Since April 2017, BLG had already been carrying out these processes in an upstream consolidation center at the plant itself.

Around 100 invited guests, including many BLG customers from the Berlin/Brandenburg area, accepted the invitation to the official inauguration ceremony. In his speech, Jens Wollesen, member of the Board of Management responsible for the BLG Contract Logistics Division, thanked the customer Siemens, all the project partners and BLG employees involved and Falkensee's mayor Heiko Müller "for their support in approving both construction projects, Falkensee I and II". Jens Wollesen continues: "We now manage a total of 64,000 square meters of logistics space in Falkensee. 'Falkensee II' is located in the direct vicinity of 'Falkensee I'. We have been managing all external warehouse processes for the Siemens switchgear plant in Berlin there for a good four years and have integrated various activities for other customers."

Heiko Müller and Jan-Marc Lischka, Head of the Siemens gas turbine plant in Berlin, also spoke to the guests. Afterwards, all participants were given a guided tour of the halls to get an idea of the complex logistics services provided by the 70-strong BLG team on site. In total, the BLG Group provides around 300 jobs in the Berlin/Brandenburg area.

New distribution center in Elsdorf

At the same time, Thomas Krüger, Managing Director of BLG Handelslogistik, Andreas Bellmann, Mayor of Elsdorf, and Johannes Ferber, Property Manager IKEA Germany, opened the distribution center in Elsdorf. BLG Logistics is responsible for receiving, storing and picking all products ordered online for its customer IKEA. Goods for customers from the Hamburg, Kiel, Lübeck, Bremerhaven, Bremen and Oldenburg areas are picked and dispatched from the warehouse, which has more than 36,000 storage spaces. At peak times, up to 130 employees will be working for the logistics service provider on 35,000 square meters.

Thomas Krüger emphasized in his speech: "Our employees are the success factor for our high-quality services." He also described the cooperation between BLG and IKEA as successful and emphasized the long-standing partnership between the two companies. The foundation stone for the distribution center in Elsdorf was laid back in January. The property was presented to media representatives today on the occasion of the first goods receipt.
