SBTi confirmed
BLG Logistics has scientifically recognized climate targets
BLG Logistics' targets for the absolute reduction of greenhouse gas emissions have been recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This makes BLG Logistics the first German logistics service provider and the first Bremen-based company with a scientifically recognized climate protection target.
The SBTi is a collaboration between the environmental organization CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
"We are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and I am proud that we have set ourselves these ambitious climate protection targets," says Frank Dreeke, CEO of BLG Logistics.
The scientifically recognized goal is to reduce emissions within the company by 30 percent in absolute terms and outside the company by 15 percent by 2030. In addition, BLG Logistics invests in carefully selected and certified climate protection projects in order to make unavoidable emissions climate-neutral. BLG already offers its customers climate-neutral services. Under the title Mission Climate, the seaport and logistics service provider bundles all measures that contribute to the overarching goal of becoming a climate-neutral company by 2030.
At the 21st World Climate Conference (COP 21) in 2015, the international community adopted the legally binding Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to well below 2°C and, if possible, to a maximum of 1.5°C. This can only be achieved with a corresponding contribution from the private sector. This can only be achieved with a corresponding contribution from the economy.
As part of the revision of their climate strategy, more and more companies are explicitly addressing the question of how they can make an appropriate contribution to limiting global warming. SBTi provides companies with a framework. It examines how much greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced in order to support the goals of the Paris Agreement. Currently, 503 companies worldwide have a target confirmed by the SBTi, 26 of which are headquartered in Germany.
