Climate protection
BLG Logistics has itself checked
BLG Logistics wants to become climate-neutral by 2030. The company is one of the first logistics service providers to have its target scientifically tested in accordance with the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Various savings have already been made at BLG locations, e.g. through in-house electricity production, conversion of locations to LED lights or the introduction of company bicycles. The next step - starting retroactively from the 2019 financial year - will be to offset all emissions from company car journeys and air travel by BLG Logistics.
The partner for offsetting these climate-active gases is First Climate. Offsetting takes place via high-quality international climate protection projects in which BLG Logistics employees can help decide which activity to invest in. There are three projects to choose from: Sustainable forestry in the Brazilian Amazon region, repairing damaged wells in Malawi, Africa, or biogas for private households in India. The internal vote will take place by mid-September.
Climate-neutral services are also becoming increasingly important for BLG's customers in order to improve their own carbon footprint. The company is also working with First Climate to individually calculate greenhouse gas emissions for commissioned services and offer compensation.
BLG Logistics will become a climate-neutral company by 2030. To this end, emissions within the company are to be reduced by 30 percent (e.g. through energy-saving measures, LED lighting and photovoltaic systems). Outside the company (journeys by subcontractors or commuting by employees), a reduction of 15 percent is to be achieved. The independent Science Based Targets initiative will be used to verify this target. The SBTi was set up by leading non-governmental organizations and is committed to the scientific determination of emission reduction targets. The underlying aim is to limit global warming to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
