Bee colonies settled at logistics service provider

Herten, 07.06.20

18 -

The logistics service provider Imperial Logistics has set up ten bee colonies in an outdoor area at its Herten site. The colonies are looked after by a professional organic beekeeper. Dwindling natural areas as a result of increasing land sealing and agricultural monocultures are negative factors that restrict the habitat of bee colonies. As pollinators of fruit and vegetable plants, they are among the most important farm animals.

"With this settlement, we want to make a contribution to the preservation of bee colonies, whose numbers have declined alarmingly in recent years," explains Lou Greven, responsible for sustainability at Imperial Logistics in Duisburg.

The completely fenced-in area of around 13,000 square meters directly next to the multi-user warehouse is a so-called rough pasture, which offers ideal conditions for honey bees due to its many different herbaceous and semi-shrub plants.

operates mainly in Africa and Europe as a logistics service provider for integrated value-add logistics, supply chain management and route-to-market solutions.
