Dispatch control of goods and merchandise using RFID direction recognition

Kathrein Solutions is presenting its new ARU 8500 reader from the ARU reader family at RFID & Wireless IoT tomorrow 2019. the more complex logistics processes become, the higher the requirements for reliable and powerful readers. The new ARU 8500 reader with integrated circular switch beam antenna enables unambiguous detection of goods and their direction of movement.

Ubiquity stands for the ability to be present everywhere. However, it is also a requirement of industrial production or logistics processes that goods or merchandise in motion are recorded seamlessly at all times. The transitions between production areas or individual links in the supply chain are particularly important here. The device is characterized by higher computing power and therefore a fast reading process as well as increased reading reliability.

The core function of the ARU 8500 is a circular switch beam antenna. In contrast to standard RFID antennas, the antenna beam can be swiveled into three areas and thus track the direction of movement in a portal or access gate. The otherwise simply detected passage area is divided into three zones in order to detect the direction of movement in the access gate without any doubt. One advantage of this is that moving goods, which move through all three reading zones, can be distinguished from static readings that have only taken place in one zone. There is no need for additional sensors such as light barriers.

The ARU 8500 reader is equipped with four high-performance LEDs. This enables visualization of the active antenna or feedback of the goods & merchandise read per antenna. The LEDs allow a uniform and intensive display, which can be flexibly adjusted in terms of color, intensity and flashing frequency. The ARU 8500 reader is based on the well-known ARU 3000 reader family and can be integrated into existing IT and ERP systems using the Auto ID SW Suite CrossTalk.

The new ARU 8500 is the perfect solution for detecting goods transitions in the industrial, logistics and retail sectors. This feature is used at loading gates to detect goods and their direction of movement, but also as an anti-theft system to check whether the goods have been paid for when leaving the store.
