Constant tracking with asset tracking

Asset tracking, the monitoring and tracking of objects, makes it possible to digitize processes. The possible applications range from individual process steps to complete supply chains. The technology is based on IOT (Internet of Things) and the networking of objects using transmitters and IOT platforms.

1. inspection at goods receipt

An opaque shrink-wrapped pallet with film can be clearly identified as soon as the goods arrive. What classic stickers with barcodes or QR codes have also achieved is now done digitally. The digital transponders no longer need to be attached to exposed areas so that they can be read from the outside in order to identify them. In addition, the classic paper labels could not be reused. Soiling also often caused problems here. Digital solutions do not have to contend with such obstacles. The question here is rather which reception technology is best. Depending on the area of application and requirements, there are different technologies, ranges (indoor or outdoor), power supplies (with/without battery or power connection) and sizes.

2. localization in the warehouse

The transmitters can be attached to a product, a load carrier or a means of transport in order to clearly identify them, regardless of whether the load carrier is a pallet or a gas cylinder. The second advantage is precise localization: Where are the goods and who is currently transporting them? The answers to such questions can be used to map different scenarios in the logistics process.

The information output by the transmitters must be transported further. This is where the Comarch IOT Platform acts as a solid foundation for the constant availability of data. Simple analyses and rules for management can be set up in this way. Hubs or IOT gateways networked with the IOT (Internet of Things) receive information from the senders and transport it to the IOT platform, where it is analyzed what should be done with the data: To the BI portal for analysis or the goods movements to the ERP system? The data generated in this way can all be transferred to the ERP system in order to initiate or complete processes there, such as rebookings. This ensures complete transparency in the ERP system at all times, without anyone having to manually book or scan a process; all processes run automatically, quickly and promptly or in real time.

3. tracking of the transport route

Not only can rebookings be carried out automatically in the background and in real time without further human interaction. In fact, the entire transport route can be tracked, be it in the truck, in the airplane on the container ship or in the container itself. The GPS data is then available via satellites to track the entire transport.

Smart metering solutions can also be used to track the status of a product, such as temperature, weight or fill level. You can find out more about smart metering in the Comarch whitepaper: Whitepaper Smart Metering for Industry
