Still invests in Hamburg headquarters: 50 million euros for new mechatronics center

On February 19, intralogistics expert Still and Mercurius Industrial Properties officially broke ground for the Still "Centre of Competence Mechatronics" in Hamburg. Still has also announced further site developments in the Hanseatic city: The company intends to strengthen its position in the field of energy systems and manufacture its own lithium-ion batteries in Hamburg from 2026.

Together with Hamburg's Senator for Economics and Innovation, Dr. Melanie Leonhard, STILL and Mercurius today opened the construction phase of the new mechatronics center in Hamburg Billbrook. The building is being constructed on a plot of 14,500 m² and comprises a production area of 8,200 m² and 2,600 m² of office space. Around 140 employees will work here in the future. The total costs for the land, construction, production facilities and equipment amount to around 50 million euros. The ambitious construction project is scheduled for completion in early 2026, with the move planned for summer 2026.

The goal: to strengthen innovation and production

With the new building, Still is increasing the spatial capacity of its mechatronics from around 5,900 m² today to 10,800 m². This is Still's response to the successful development of mechatronics within the company and creates an important prerequisite for further growth and the further expansion of the mechatronics portfolio. In addition, the new Center of Competence enables the bundling of different teams and competencies and thus promotes interdisciplinary cooperation, innovation and efficiency. In addition to production lines, the new premises also provide ample space for test areas and development laboratories.

The new location is just one kilometer away from Still's headquarters, where the existing Mechatronics Center is located. The vacated premises are already firmly planned as part of the site development and will enable the Still training workshop to be expanded, among other things.

"With our Centre of Competence Mechatronics, we are creating a unique innovation platform for the entire mechatronics sector," emphasizes Still Managing Director Dr. Florian Heydenreich. "It stands for innovative strength, technological excellence and efficiency - and for highly attractive, future-proof jobs in Hamburg."
