Electric forklift trucks: 5.4 percent growth expected worldwide by 2024
According to an international study, the share of electric forklift trucks is expected to grow by 5.4% worldwide over the next five years and reach a market volume of 19.6 billion dollars by 2024.
Environmental sustainability has become one of the most important issues in logistics on a global scale. More and more companies are deciding to replace thermal forklift trucks with electric ones: According to an American study published by Reuters, the global market for electric forklift trucks will grow by 5.4% over the next five years, reaching a value of 19.6 billion dollars by 2024. In Europe, the share of electric forklift trucks among frontliners has already risen from 49% to 55.2% in the past five years. And even the EMEA market, which in the past tended towards thermal forklift trucks, has adopted this trend. In the last three years, the proportion of electric forklift trucks here has also risen from 49.2% to 51%.
Lower emission values
But what are the advantages of electric forklift trucks in logistics? According to the manufacturer Baoli, the main features include lower operating costs, zero emissions and considerable driving comfort, as well as a reduction in noise and vibration limits compared to thermal forklift trucks, which contributes to a significant improvement in operator safety and well-being.
With the EP12WS and EPW15S transport forklift trucks, Baoli offers suitable solutions for light goods handling, as is typical for small retail stores and in motor vehicles. "The use of AC technology and high reliability have meant that electric machines are now available both inside and outside warehouses without any restrictions," explains Francesco Pampuri, Baoli EMEA Marketing Manager. "In addition, environmental issues are increasingly coming into focus, which has led to the massive use of electric forklift trucks. Due to numerous advantages, these are now also available in a lithium battery version. It makes it possible to work in several shifts without changing batteries; electric forklifts can be charged anywhere, even inside sales areas - all functions that can be found in our EP12WS and EPW15S transport forklifts. This is our answer to the light handling needs typical of small retail stores and in motor vehicles."
Cost benefits in maintenance
Another reason for the gradual decline of thermal forklifts is increasing operating costs and the upcoming new European legislation planned for 2020, which will lead to a general increase in forklift purchasing costs of around 15 to 20%. This is expected to bring the cost of thermal forklifts closer to, and in some cases even higher than, electric forklifts.
