TGW accelerates fashion specialist Mango

In recent months, a highly automated multichannel distribution center has been built for Spanish fashion retailer Mango near Barcelona. The logistics hub currently supplies more than 2,200 stores and online store customers - in Spain, Europe and worldwide. Austrian specialist TGW was responsible for the intralogistics. A flexible solution for flat-packed and hanging garments as well as accessories ensures optimum performance and high throughput.

Mango was founded in 1984 and is now one of the world's leading fashion chains. The fashion specialist sells clothing, shoes, bags and accessories - via its online store and in over 2,200 stores. The Spanish company is represented in 110 countries and achieved a turnover of 2.2 billion euros with 15,000 employees. The growth of recent years has made it necessary to consolidate the supply chain. In order to optimize delivery times and reduce logistics costs, Mango opted for a central hub in the Catalan municipality of Lliça d'Amunt.

The cartons are transferred from the containers or pallets to the automated small parts warehouse via the incoming goods area. The miniload offers a total of 850,000 carton storage locations - on two levels with a total of 44 aisles. Single-variety cartons as well as garments-on-hangers in cartons come directly from the miniload to goods issue. Mixed cartons are first repacked into totes and then temporarily stored in the Stingray shuttle buffer. The latter comprises 14 aisles, each with 13 levels. Depending on the order type, the retrieved cartons are transported to a sorter or to TGW high-performance picking workstations.

Antonio Pascual, Director Supply Chain at Mango, confirms: "With the new distribution center, we are taking the next step in the modernization of our intralogistics. This will enable us to offer our customers the best possible service in the years to come." David Bendien, CEO South Europe at TGW, adds: "The solution is highly automated and combines flexibility and dynamism with maximum control over all processes. And all this with a low total cost of ownership.
