Swedish gastronomy specialist relies on TGW

In Norrköping, Sweden, TGW is building a highly automated fulfillment center for the food service wholesaler Martin & Servera by March 2022. The company is bundling its logistics at a central location and using the automation solution to lay the foundation for its planned growth in the coming years.

Martin & Servera is Sweden's leading catering specialist. Based in Stockholm, the company supplies thousands of restaurants, bars and canteens with a wide range of food, beverages and non-food items every day. The wholesaler currently operates four distribution centers. With the new fulfillment center, the logistics for slow-moving items can be bundled at a central location: This will enable significant service improvements and lower costs at the same time. "This is our first investment of this size in automation. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with TGW on this strategically important project," emphasizes Magnus Schultz, Head of Development at Martin & Servera Logistik.

The TGW solution comprises a shuttle system with more than 35,000 storage locations in two temperature zones (normal and refrigerated temperature). In order to make optimum use of the available space, the containers are stored three-deep. An automated small parts warehouse (AKL) with 11,000 storage locations and Mustang E+ storage and retrieval machines is used for replenishment. "The collaboration between the two companies is great. The jointly developed solution will support Martin & Servera on its successful growth path," emphasizes Christian Brink, Sales Project Manager at TGW Scandinavia. The customer orders are processed at four high-performance picking workstations that are connected to the shuttle. In the final step, the order totes with the chilled goods are buffered in a Commissioner lifting beam system before the orders are consolidated and then dispatched.

The project also includes a service and maintenance contract, which includes on-site support from TGW specialists. Together with the customer, it can be ensured that the system runs smoothly in two-shift operation.
