Daniel Gilgen: "The first step is to understand your own needs"
Even in times of coronavirus, logistics centers and the expectations placed on intralogistics in them are growing. Editor-in-chief Martin Schrüfer asked industry experts about the fundamental considerations that should be made before any new construction or expansion of a logistics center and wanted to know which products are helpful.
Short interview: Daniel Gilgen, Gilgen Logistics
materialfluss: What is the most important thought that should first come to mind when planning a new warehouse? What must be the overriding consideration?
Daniel Gilgen: The first step is to understand your own needs. What are the functional and non-functional requirements for the overall system and the individual trades, such as steel construction, façade, intralogistics system and so on? The target processes, for example the operation of the system, must also be optimized and understood. The central consideration: Which are the ideal partners for implementation? How can the technical and organizational interfaces be optimally covered? The project organization is central to successful implementation - the right people in your own company and the ideal partners/suppliers who have understood the above points.
mfl: Which product, service, strategy or technology from your portfolio comes to mind first when you think of the word new build?
Gilgen: Gilgen Logistics is a general contractor for warehousing and logistics and integrates intralogistics systems into an intelligent overall system. For large storage capacities, our high-bay warehouses enable optimum use of space and maximum storage capacity and ensure efficient goods storage and distribution. Gilgen supplies everything from a single source: from racking and roof/wall cladding to storage and retrieval machines and conveyor technology, and equips these with its own control technology and warehouse management system to guarantee a consistent automation system in the logistics center. We accompany the systems as a long-term, reliable and fair partner - from planning to commissioning and system support through customer service and support.
