Category 2: Craemer KUBO

The Kubo, short for plastic box, is the perfect alternative to the DB Europool lattice box (Gibo) often used for heavy goods and components.

In the automotive industry, a smooth internal material flow is one of the basic factors for efficient production. With its large-scale production of metal vehicle modules and plastic load carriers, the Craemer Group is one of the world's leading automotive suppliers. The plastics pioneer now has a new development for smooth (intra-)logistics in the industry: Kubo, a robust four-way box made of high-quality polyethylene (PE) as an alternative to the pallet cage.

Technology and efficiency

A large front wall flap with a locking mechanism and a hinge on one of the long sides, which can be opened downwards and outwards by 180 degrees (like the Gibo), makes it easy to load and remove components even when the boxes are stacked. When closed, the front wall flap (705 mm wide x 423 mm high) is not flush with the edge of the box to allow the forklift tines to be inserted when stacking or removing a box. To protect the opposite wall from a possible impact of the forks, the upper edge is equipped with an internal collision slope. The design with clean and straight lines, minimal ribbing and rounded shape stands for easy cleaning and drying.

The Craemer Kubo is also temperature-resistant from -30 to +40 degrees Celsius (briefly up to +90) and resistant to most chemicals and cleaning agents. It is optionally available with a floor drain, with or without a front wall flap and with RFID transponder equipment for seamless tracking. Printing areas are used for logos or labels, dimpled areas for temporary stickers and the front flap has a document holder. The new plastic box is an ideal gibo alternative or addition for the automotive industry thanks to its compatibility with the mesh box, robust construction and high payload. The Kubo from Craemer is particularly suitable for transporting heavy automotive components.

Unique selling points

The new Craemer box made of PE has numerous advantages over the steel frame and grid construction. It is light and robust, easy to empty, clean and dry, guaranteed corrosion-free, very resilient, versatile and stackable, poolable and repairable and also protects sensitive automotive components thanks to its closed shape. The Gibo-compatible Kubo is suitable for both alternative and parallel use.

With the same external dimensions (1240 x 835 x 970 mm / internal dimensions: 1132 x 732 x 831 mm), it has a volume of around 610 liters; with a tare weight of 51 kilograms (including front wall flap), it has a stacking load of 3000 kilograms, a payload of 1000 kilograms and a dynamic load of 2100 kilograms. The design is based on the UIC 435-3 standard (International Union of Railways) or DIN 15155/8. The four legs are designed as interchangeable corner pillars. The new Kubo four-way box from Craemer runs maintenance-free and trouble-free on all common conveyor systems and is suitable for automated high-bay warehouses.

In addition to the advantages offered by the PE material - protected contents thanks to the closed shape, low tare weight and therefore more cost-effective empty transportation (around 25% lighter than Gibo) - the Kubo offers enormous stability and good stackability. The stacking height of two Kubo boxes is 1940 millimetres, with a maximum payload of 1000 kilograms per box, three plastic boxes can be stacked on top of each other. As with the mesh box, the top edges provide ideal stacking surfaces. The corner pillars reinforce the container, while reinforcements of the lower deck with three transverse and two longitudinal profiles ensure high stability of the container base. The steel L-profiles on the long sides of the box - in addition to the additional ribs above the entry openings - provide further impact protection against forklift tines. As a four-way box, the Kubo thus offers all-round protection.
