Michaël Cibois: When modernizing an automated warehouse, the first thing to consider when switching from wooden to plastic pallets is the following: 1. improving the workflow and making it easier for employees by significantly reducing weight and the risk of injury 2. preventing downtime and loss of productivity due to wedging, splintering or blockages with wooden pallets. 3. savings in transportation and storage costs thanks to stackable, nestable pallets. 4. no weight fluctuations due to moisture. 5. tracibilty: possibility of using RFID labels. 6. sustainability: use of robust, reusable pallets that are 100 percent recyclable.

mfl: Which of your company's products or services is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of modernization?

Cibois: The advantages of using robust, nestable, reusable plastic pallets for modernization in automated order picking, e.g. due to the constant light weight and the robust, moisture-resistant material. One example of this is our Scandinavian customer Elgiganten (electrical appliances and multimedia retail and service company), which uses weight control for automated picking for its online stores: automatic order picking is carried out according to a weight-defined picking list. Weight deviations due to the load carrier are fatal here, as the system only works if the weight of each pallet used is exactly the same throughout the entire picking process, including shipping. In addition, the use of plastic pallets has led to a significant improvement in work ergonomics for employees, resulting in far fewer injuries and absences. Transport and storage costs were significantly reduced thanks to the nestability and reduced weight. And thanks to the robust plastic material, there were no more deformations or splintering, which led to blockages and jams during order picking and jeopardized the guaranteed delivery time.
