United Airlines completes 5,000 cargo-only flights

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, United Airlines began operating cargo-only flights on March 19, 2020 to ensure the transport of important goods between hubs in the USA and the movement of goods to international destinations. United has now already completed 5,000 cargo-only flights.

On these 5,000 flights, United Cargo transported goods with a total weight of more than 83,000 tons. Over 1,100 of these flights crossed the Atlantic - to/from Frankfurt, Zurich, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Milan, Mumbai, Rome and Tel Aviv - and carried more than 22,000 tons.

The demand for personal protective equipment and medical goods to combat COVID-19 is currently particularly high. In this area, United has transported over 53,000 tons on cargo-only flights and as additional cargo on passenger flights in recent weeks and months.

"United transports urgently needed goods worldwide and can thus make a significant contribution to ensuring that global trade and supply routes are maintained even in times of the pandemic," said Jan Krems, President of United Cargo. "The past few months have presented us with challenges that I have never experienced in the more than 30 years that I have been working in air freight and logistics. I am very proud of our teams who have continued to provide the best service to our customers and ensure the transportation of essential goods during this time."
