Freight fleet expanded
Lufthansa Cargo welcomes ninth B777F in Frankfurt
On Tuesday, September 29, Lufhansa Cargo's latest Boeing 777F landed at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) for the first time. As flight LH8145, the freighter was en route for 10 hours and 10 minutes after taking off from Everett Airport (PAE) in the US state of Washington.
Lufthansa Cargo now operates nine modern "Triple Seven" aircraft at its home hub in Frankfurt. In addition, the company markets the freight capacity of four further aircraft of this type, which are operated by the joint venture AeroLogic based at Leipzig Airport.
"Air freight secures important supply routes, especially in acute crises, and thus makes a fundamental contribution to the global economy. Mastering short-term global challenges is one of our core competencies, countering long-term global challenges is our responsibility. With our new fleet, we are underlining our claim to actively and sustainably combine economic and ecological efficiency," said Peter Gerber, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.
The twin-engine Boeing 777F is around 20 percent more efficient and emits lessCO2 than the previously used MD-11F. The new model also meets the strict noise protection requirements of ICAO Annex 16, Volume I, Chapter 14. The higher cargo capacity and range means that the same cargo performance can be achieved with fewer flight movements in future.
