Airfreight: Imperial makes strong gains

Duisburg, 07.09.2017 - Imperial Logistics, consisting of the three sub-divisions South Africa, African Regions and International, closed the 2016/17 financial year, which ended on June 30, with a year-on-year increase in EBIT to 2.8 billion South African rand (equivalent to EUR 191 million). This corresponds to an increase of 9 percent. Sales rose by 6 percent compared to the previous year to ZAR 50.7 billion (EUR 3.46 billion).

Imperial Logistics International, which comprises all of Imperial's logistics activities outside Africa, increased its turnover by 26 percent to EUR 1.638 billion and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) by 19 percent to EUR 75.4 million with an operating margin of 4.6 percent. "The significant increase in turnover and profit at Imperial Logistics International is due to the positive development of the express freight service provider Palletways, which was acquired in mid-2016, as well as positive organic growth through new projects in the established business," comments CEO Carsten Taucke (pictured). As an example, he cites the expansion of business at Imperial Shipping Paraguay and new business in the automotive industry, such as for Audi AG in Ingolstadt, the BMW Group in Wallersdorf and for Volkswagen and Audi in Poland and Hungary. red
