Corona pandemic: Emirates SkyCargo supports important supply chains

As an airline, Emirates SkyCargo has ensured that there is always sufficient cargo capacity on its flights to transport urgently needed medical supplies and food during the coronavirus pandemic. In this way, it is supporting countries and supermarkets in maintaining their food supplies and at the same time helping farmers to continue to earn a living in these difficult times.

Emirates flights carry a variety of foodstuffs to and from more than 130 destinations on six continents. For example, the first freighter flight operated by Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, which took off from Guadalajara, Mexico, this month, carried several tons of avocados and other vegetables grown and harvested in Mexico.

Covid-19 and the resulting temporary suspension of international passenger flights also jeopardized the supply chain for food products. Emirates SkyCargo has responded by working continuously to restore its international cargo connectivity. The route network has been expanded from only around 35 destinations with its full freighters at the end of March to more than 130 destinations with both its cargo and passenger aircraft. Around 500 tons of food are currently transported around the world every day.
