Cargolux China launches

Luxembourg, 29.01.2016 - Luxembourg-based cargo airline Cargolux will invest USD 77 million in the new Chinese joint venture cargo airline Cargolux China, which will be based at Cargolux's new Chinese hub in Zhengzhou and is expected to start operations in 2017. The focus will be on transpacific and intra-Asian routes. The fleet is set to grow to a total of five Boeing 747 freighters in the first three years of operation.

Cargolux will hold 35 percent of the new airline. Other shareholders in the joint venture are Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Co., Ltd. (HNCA) with 49 percent, Xin Gang Investment & Development Co., Ltd. and Henan Airport Group Co., Ltd. with 8 percent each.

HNCA is a Chinese state-owned enterprise that is committed to the development of the civil aviation industry and the construction of the economic zone at Zhengzhou Airport. HNCA is committed to the further development of the Central China Economic Zone through the active expansion of aviation infrastructure and the targeted promotion of aviation-related industries.

Xin Gang Investment & Development Co, Ltd. was founded in Zhengzhou in 2012 as a private company. The company specializes in construction projects and is responsible for the development of the 415-square-kilometre Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone at Zhengzhou Airport. This is one of the largest economic zones in central China. It is characterized by steady growth in the areas of commercial investment, economic output and trade volume.

The Henan Airport Group is the operator of Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, the fastest growing cargo airport in China. The airport development concept envisages a total of five runways by 2040, one of which will be used exclusively for cargo flights and four for passenger traffic and expanded cargo activities. The airport is aiming for an annual capacity of more than three million tons of freight and 70 million passengers.

Cargolux China is the latest addition to the Cargolux Group. The fleet currently comprises 25 Boeing 747 freighters, four of which are operated by Cargolux Italia.

Cargolux Airlines International

The Luxembourg-based company operates a fleet of 13 Boeing 747-8 and 12 Boeing 747-400 all-cargo aircraft. The airline's global network comprises more than 90 destinations, of which around 70 are served by scheduled cargo flights. In addition, it offers a global trucking network to more than 250 destinations as well as charter flights. Cargolux also offers maintenance and repair services to third parties at its maintenance hangar with two bays in Luxembourg. The company specializes in maintenance for the Boeing 747 series and also provides C-checks. In addition, other specialty maintenance services are available and the company is certified to provide line maintenance services for the Boeing 777. Cargolux has more than 85 offices in over 50 countries and employs over 1,500 people worldwide.
