Big Deal?
Berlin-based Zeitfracht Group wants to take over Rostock-Laage-Güstrow Airport
The Berlin-based Zeitfracht Group wants to take over the civilian part of Rostock-Laage-Güstrow Airport. The airport, which is used partly for civilian and partly for military purposes, is to be completely privatized and then developed further.
The Berlin-based family-owned company is currently negotiating with the shareholder representatives of Flughafen Rostock-Laage-Güstrow GmbH (RLG) regarding its stake in the airport. The negotiations are about to be concluded.
The Hanseatic and University City of Rostock is currently the joint owner of Flughafen Rostock-Laage-Güstrow GmbH (RLG) via the city-owned RVV Rostocker Versorgungs- und Verkehrs-Holding GmbH (RVV) as well as the district of Rostock and the city of Laage. The shareholders had initiated a public expression of interest procedure to sound out whether a private company would be prepared to invest in the airport. The Zeitfracht Group then submitted a corresponding offer and future concept. It is primarily based on the further development of RLG as an additional logistics location for the Zeitfracht Group. To this end, the construction of a logistics center is planned, in which air freight and road transport can be closely interlinked.
The decision on the sale of the airport will ultimately be made by the political bodies of the three current owners. The process is already so far advanced that the key framework conditions have been established for presentation to the committees.
Yvette Hartmann, Managing Director of RVV, who is conducting the process on behalf of the other owners of RLG: "The Zeitfracht Group has presented very concrete plans for the site and is committed to the continued operation of the airport. This package opens up a new economic perspective for RLG."
Wolfram Simon-Schröter, CEO of the Zeitfracht Group: "The acquisition of the airport is an investment in the future for us and the airport. We can integrate Rostock-Laage Airport very well into our existing activities in the logistics and aerospace sectors and create a location for further growth and the basis for the further development of other parts of our group of companies. And we are very interested in offering the airport and the employees here a future perspective."
