Visitor growth at the robotics trade fair

After four days of the trade fair, organizers and exhibitors can draw a positive conclusion of the trade fair, which has almost reached pre-Covid levels again.

The world of work and society are facing a massive upheaval in the coming years. From June 27 to 30, 2023, Automatica in Munich demonstrated the solutions offered by intelligent automation and robotics in this context. The figures are good: 40,000 visitors from around 88 nations and 650 exhibitors from 34 countries. This is a significant increase compared to 28,000 visitors and 574 exhibitors last year and almost back to pre-corona levels when 46,000 visitors met 890 exhibitors in 2018.

After four days at the fair, the two trade fair directors Reinhard Pfeiffer and Stefan Rummel draw a positive balance: "Automatica has once again demonstrated its great innovative strength. With forward-looking solutions, the participating companies showed concretely how, among other things, the shortage of skilled workers can be compensated for. The successful interaction with the parallel events Laser World of Photonics and World of Quantum also strengthens Munich's position as a leading technology location."

Exhibitors satisfied

Frank Konrad, Chairman of the VDMA Automation + Robotics Association and CEO of HAHN Automation, praises: "automatica has been the most important trade fair for us as an automation company for almost 20 years. After a somewhat restrained comeback after Corona last year, this year again saw higher visitor numbers, which was a positive reflection for us as an exhibitor. We were able to hold many good discussions and maintain intensive contacts."

Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics, also expressed his satisfaction: "Robotics and AI are key technologies for a successful decade of transformation. This makes automatica all the more important as a leading trade fair and trend barometer for companies that want to make their production and logistics fit for the future - i.e. flexible, networked and sustainable."

In addition to the established key players, Google subsidiary Intrinsic took part in Automatica for the first time this year. Henrike Neulen, Account Executive, explains why the Alphabet company chose Automatica for the first trade fair in the company's history: "Our aim is to make robotics simpler and more accessible for both suppliers and users. Automatica is therefore the right environment for us to present ourselves as a company and our products live to a broad international audience for the first time."

Klaus Kluger, co-organizer of the special show "Mobile Robots in Production", is very satisfied: "Mobile robotics will massively change production and intralogistics in the coming years. The mesh-up at this year's automatica impressively demonstrated what the interoperable production logistics of the future can look like with AMRs from different manufacturers thanks to VDA 5050 and a standardized master control system."

For Thomas Hähn, CEO United Robotics Group, the special show Service Robot City has great potential: "We are delighted that companies and start-ups from the service robotics sector are much better represented at this year's automatica than in the past. In the future, even greater integration between start-ups and established companies can accelerate developments. There is definitely no shortage of good ideas and innovations."

The next Automatica will take place from June 24 to 27, 2025, once again in parallel with the Laser World of Photonics and the World of Quantum in Munich.
