TGW has won the Austrian Robotics Award 2018 in the "Company" category. It impressed the expert jury with its Rovolution system. The system for fully automated single-item picking is intelligent, self-learning and works autonomously.

On October 24, the jury selected TGW as the winner in the company category. "The Austrian Robotics Award is a great acknowledgement of our work. The positive reactions from our customers and many inquiries also show us that we have hit the nerve of the industry," says a delighted Harald Schröpf, CEO of the TGW Logistics Group.

More robotics in intralogistics

Until now, picking by robots in intralogistics was only possible to a limited extent. However, automation in intralogistics is becoming increasingly important. TGW wants to provide the solution to this growing demand with Rovolution. "Insights from the fields of cognitive robotics, machine learning and image recognition form the basis for the technology. Unexpected events are corrected autonomously and without any human intervention, enabling uninterrupted work around the clock," emphasizes Markus Gusenbauer, Director Group Technology at TGW.

Automatic correction

An important advantage: TGW's system is capable of learning. For example, if an item falls to the floor during the picking process between the source and target containers, Rovolution corrects itself autonomously and adjusts the storage level. The innovation thus combines performance maximization and flexibility. Maximizing performance does not mean improving the kinematics, but minimizing downtimes completely. This is ensured by the autonomous processes for correcting unexpected events. Rovolution can cope with many different article types and packaging - in different applications.
