New business segment
Südstahl takes over insolvent Schwab Förder- und Lagertechnik GmbH
The mechanical engineering company Südstahl has taken over parts of the business operations of Schwab Förder- und Lagertechnik GmbH, which is currently undergoing insolvency proceedings.
Schwab has been manufacturing storage systems such as paternosters, roll-out racks, conveyor systems and cutting machines, which can store goods and merchandise as system solutions, since 1932. According to the company, the takeover represents a strategic expansion of Südstahl's product range: "In addition, new sales opportunities will be created to compensate for the expected declines in the automotive industry."
With the storage systems from Schwab Förder- und Lagertechnik GmbH, Südstahl is able to supplement its product range in an ideal way. In addition, all acquired products can continue to be produced with the existing manufacturing capabilities of the Mertingen-based company and the support of former Schwab employees. The takeover now enables the development of a new product division.
Südstahl Managing Director Ulrich Käuferle: "With the expansion of our business operations, we are making an investment in the future after carefully weighing up the risks and despite the current crisis. With the bundled know-how, we want to further develop our company, secure jobs in the long term and strengthen our market position." Addressing Schwab's customers explicitly, Käuferle emphasizes that service and the supply of spare parts will continue to be guaranteed. "We will resume maintenance and service for the old appliances under a new name," says the Managing Director.
Schwab insolvency administrator Georg Jakob Stemshorn, Pluta Rechtsanwalt GmbH, is satisfied with the succession solution reached: "After intensive examination, the agreement reached is the best possible result for the company and its creditors."
Founded in 1946, Südstahl currently employs 120 people at its two sites in Mertingen and Aindling. In addition to groups such as Volkswagen, Audi, KUKA and Siemens Transportation Systems, its customers include around 400 small and medium-sized companies in the region.
