SSI Schaefer lays the foundation for greater efficiency and sustainability
SSI Schaefer begins construction of the new logistics center for Römerwall Naturbrunnen und Getränke GmbH & Co KG in Duisburg-Walsum. Following completion of the floor slab for the 93 m long, 77 m wide and 43 m high logistics complex, SSI Schaefer, as general contractor, will begin construction of the turnkey logistics facility in the next few days. 1,000 tons of steel and 3,500 m3 of concrete were used for the 50 cm thick floor slab. It will support the beverage manufacturer's new fully automated high-bay warehouse (HBW) on a footprint the size of a soccer pitch. 53,000 pallet spaces will be served by 20 pallet shuttles. An electric monorail system (EMS) connects the warehouse with the production halls. It picks up the beverage crates and containers directly at the end of the filling lines and transports them to the transfer stations in the high-bay warehouse without forklift traffic. Once completed, the variable storage channels, which are up to 22 deep, will have space for more than two million crates. The EMS also returns some of the empties to production.
