Robotics solution
Lloyd Shoes relies on A.I. and robots
The robotics company Magazino has won shoe manufacturer and retailer Llloyd Shoes GmbH as a customer. The first mobile picking robots from Magazino have been in use in the dispatch warehouse since December. At the main site in Sulingen, the TORU robots support employees in storing and retrieving shoes ordered online in shelving systems.
The continuing growth in online retail and ever smaller batch sizes require automation solutions that can be flexibly adapted and scaled as required. Additional TORU robots can be integrated into an existing fleet in less than half a day.
Stephan Wiegmann, the responsible project manager at Llloyd, says: "We are convinced that the Magazino robots are an important component for flexible, scalable automation of our shipping processes and help us to map the growth in e-commerce and, above all, to support our employees."
According to the company, one of the key benefits of TORU is its ability to integrate into the existing warehouse environment in Sulingen without any conversion work and to support its human colleagues in their activities. For example, TORU can relieve employees of non-ergonomic tasks, such as picking from the bottom or top shelf or walking particularly long distances in the warehouse. Thanks to numerous sensors, the TORU robot can perceive its environment, recognize people or obstacles in the way and thus safely pick in parallel with humans in the same work area. With an operating time of up to 18 hours, TORU can also work at night or outside core working hours.
The TORU robots are already being used by several customers in Germany and Europe. Users include the logistics service provider Fiege and the online platform Zalando. Both have recently significantly expanded their robot fleets. With the TORU solution, individual items can not only be picked or transported from A to B in the warehouse, but both process steps are covered. In addition, according to the company, TORU can identify and pick not only entire load carriers but also individual objects, such as a single shoe box, on the shelf.
