Dematic installs first robotic picking system in Australia
Dematic is delivering its world-first robotic picking system in Australia. The robot Piece Picking Module will automate order picking in the new distribution center of food retailer Drakes Supermarkets in Edinburgh North.
More productive and precise
After passing through the beta phase, Dematics Piece Picking Module is now going live at Drakes Supermakets, one of Australia's largest independent grocery retailers. The module can independently select individual items and transport them to the designated bins. This increases both accuracy and productivity and ultimately speeds up the entire order processing process.
Combination of several Dematic solutions
In addition to the Piece Picking Module robot, the food retailer also integrates the RapidPICK goods-to-person picking system from Dematic and the Dematic Multishuttle buffer and sequencing system into its picking process. The system automatically picks all goods-to-person-capable foodstuffs according to the order list and places them in the designated containers.
Sutcliffe: "Most modern plant in South Australia"
"Our new facility will be the most modern independent distribution and logistics center in South Australia and as such is an important part of our group's vertical integration strategy in the supermarket sector," said Glenn Sutcliffe, Logistics Manager at Drakes Supermarkets. "We look forward to optimizing intralogistics processes and automating picking with the Dematic Piece Picking Module robot as part of our high-tech picking system." The distribution center, which cost around 70 million euros, is located on a 17-hectare site and is expected to create up to 550 new jobs.
Further system planned in Malaysia
Following its launch on the market, the next robot system is already being planned in Malaysia.
